Garden Design and Architects' Gardens was written by William Robinson - "the father of the English flower garden". During his long life (97 years) the author traveled widely in both the British Isles and North America studying nature and the work of other garden designers. He rebelled against traditional formal gardens, and lobbied for a more natural approach to garden design.
The book includes many photographs of example gardens and details of plantings. Two-page spreads are used for large illustrations.

The color scheme of the book is, appropriately, green. The book consists of 160 pages, with overall dimensions of 76 x 76 mm (3 x 3 inches). The edition is limited to 20 copies, priced each at $45 plus $7 for postage and handling.
