The story is set at the time it was written, just after the First World War. Tommy and Tuppence - old friends - are out of work, broke, and bored, so they decide to go into business as The Young Adventurers, Ltd. While they offer to "do anything, go anywhere", even they are surprised at the outcome when they start searching tor the elusive Jane Finn.
Each volume consists of 280 pages, printed in 7-point Bulmer for easy reading. Overall dimensions are 75 x 63 x 15 mm (3 x 2-1/2 x 9/16 inches) per volume.
The books are bound in white cloth-covered boards printed on the front cover with a printed image of Tommy and Tuppence, with Jane Finn in the background. The spine of volume 1 carries in image of Tommy in blue, and volume 2 of Tuppence in red. The colors are carried through the respective volumes in the endpapers and heads.

The Secret Adversary will be limited to 20 copies, priced at $80 per 2-volume set, plus $5 for shipping and handling.
