RUGS: Oriental and Occidental, Ancient and Modern by Rosa Belle Holt was originally published in 1908, but it is a testament to its usefulness that it is still in print. The world-wide survey that it provided was no doubt useful to buyers at the time; today it is useful to collectors, since many traditional rug-makers no longer exist, and their rugs are now rare. The Plum Park Press edition includes all of the photographs of rugs and rug production from the original, including a number of rug photographs in color.
The book is bound in tan buckram printed with an image of a rug on the front cover. The endpapers carry four more color images of rugs described in the book. The book also comes wrapped in a miniature rug, tied with a jute cord - as if it just came off a boat from a far-off land.
The book has 240 pages, with overall dimensions of 75 x 53 x 18 mm (3 x 2-1/8 x 11/16 inches). It is now available in a second edition of 8 copies, priced $40 plus $5 shipping and handling.
