would you believe a humorous science-fiction novel written in 1889? The Last American was written by John Ames Mitchell, and it describes  Persian expedition to North America about a thousand years in the future. According to the novel, American culture largely collapsed at the end of the nineteenth century, and never recovered. It sounds as though the author had some reservations about his own time, albeit expressed through 30th-century Persions...
The book is copiously illustrated and decorated, with many illustrations taken from watercolor paintings.

The binding reproduces the original 1903 edition, with yellow cloth and blue printing.

The book consists of 200 pages, and has overall dimensions of 75 x 56 mm (3 x 2-3/16 inches). It is priced at $45 plus $7 for shipping and handling.
