The Evolution of English
The full title is The evolution of ENGLISH, old, middle, and modern, shown by four poems, with an essay on the runic futhorc. As the title suggests, this is a set of four miniature books, each about 75 x 75 mm (3 x 3 inches), housed in a wooden box 115 x 102 x 95 mm (4-1/2 x 4 x 3-3/4 inches). The four poems are:
- Beowulf (anonymous), originally in old English
- The Knight's Tale (Chaucer), originally in middle English
- Venus and Adonis (Shakespeare), in early modern English
- The Defence of Guinevere (Morris), in late modern English
